For the past week for reading, my class was learning how to identify the main points. We have been learning about Parihaka. We had to read 3 texts, and watch 2 videos about Parihaka.
We had to create a feather with words that are similar to the word 'peace'. I enjoyed adding in the words. I found thinking of the words tricky. Next time I would change how I coloured the feather.Today we made October reflections. We were learning how to reflect.
We had to write about the things we have been doing this month. I enjoyed thinking about all my achievements. I found it tricky to think of what to write. Next time I would change how I designed it.

Here is my reflection:
For the past few weeks we have been painting. We were painting pictures of a woman named Frida Kahlo. She was a famous mexican painter who painted self portraits and in those portraits she usually painted herself with bushy eyebrows and moustaches. Did you know that she was originally was going to be a doctor, but had crippling polio, and had to stop? She ended up being a painter because of that.
We painted her with lots of brightly coloured paints, and were given instructions by our teacher. For the flower we used tissue paper and we folded the tissue paper back and forth like a fan. Then we stapled the middle and then fanned the paper out to make it look like a flower.
I enjoyed painting the picture, and making the flower. I found it tricky to keep it neat and within the lines. Next time I would change the colour of her flower.
Today we had to make a quiz about the book Come Down, Golden so far. We were learning to ask and answer questions.
We had to make the quiz have at least five questions. I was working with Mya again. We had to make it on chapters 2 and 3 of Come Down, Golden! I enjoyed working with Mya. I think that next time I would add more questions. I found it tricky to decide on what the questions would be.

Today we made another slide for Come Down Golden. We had to make a google drawing of Louis being jumped at by a dog, from Chapter 1. We were learning how to infer.
Me and my partner Mya have been doing the slides in turns, where one person will do one, and the other will do the next. I was pretty tricky to get the work down in time, but we managed. I really enjoyed working with Mya. Next time I think that I would change how we set up the slides, so that they looked pretty.

This week for reading my group is reading Come Down, Golden. We were learning how to hypothesise. We had to write our hypothesis based on the cover and the blurb on the back of the book called 'Come Down Golden'.
I found it quite hard to not muck around and chat to my friends while working. I enjoyed thinking of the answers to our questions. Next time I would change how fast I got it down and who I sat with.

This week we were having a zombie apocalypse. My class and I were the only survivors.
We had to make slides explaining each day how we survived and thrived through that day. We had these diary entries written by someone else surviving and had to write down things to remember and new additions to the plot too. We were in groups of 3 to 4 and I was with my friends Camille and Sophia.
I found quite tricky to think of all the ways to survive, like how to find food, water, and shelter, because without those necessities we would die. Next time I would change how we made our weapons, because our teacher taught us even EASIER ways to make them. I really enjoyed working with my friends to survive the apocalypse, and I loved listening to Mrs Naden read us the diary entries, because they were REALLY cool.

Today is the last day of September and, like every month, we had to reflect. We had a template to fill out, and I quite enjoyed filling it in.
Next time I think I would write about a different book, because I read lots of them. I found it tricky to take the picture, because people kept getting in it and the lighting kept ruining it. Our teacher filled most of it out, but left gaps for our answers.

This week we have been doing our speeches. Yesterday we presented them to our teacher and she marked us. Today we got our marks, and were told if we were in the semi-finals. She was only allowed to choose three. She couldn't decide so she has chosen six, and is going to the deputy principal to get help to decide. I was one of those six, and I got the second highest marks, and my friend Camille got the highest. From our teacher Camille got 47 and I got 45. I will leave a link to her site at the end of this blog.
My speech was about Bullying and its Effects. It was really tricky to find all of the information about it. I really enjoyed presenting it to the class, even though I was really nervous. Next time I think I'd have to speak a little more slowly. The link to Camille's blog is here!

Today we had to write about why we think cats are better than dogs, or the other way around. I chose to write about why dogs are better than cats, because I have a pet dog named Nina. I still love cats though, but I just did dogs because I have one as a pet. We were learning how to apply prior knowledge and opinions.
First we had to write a plan, to put our ideas about why we think they are better. Then when we finished our plan, we had to get a doc, and write it down in the form of persuasive writing. We had to have at least three different main points, and explain in more complex paragraphs. After we had finished, we had to compare our success criteria with our writing, and mark down if we had done the different things or not.
I found it really tricky to decide, because like I said at the start of this blog, I have a dog named Nina, but my Nana has two cats that I love too. I actually really enjoyed writing down why I thought they were better after I decided, because I c=got to explain about why I love them so much. If we got to do this again, I'd write about cats instead, because I love both dogs and cats.

Here is my report:
One of my classmates designed an escape room. Today we had to try and complete the game, and take screenshots of the different creatures we come across, and blog it on here.
First we went on the class site, and clicked the link. Then we had to take a photo of the crabs, then click on the door and answer the question to pass through. We did the same with the next room, except it was with a different animal each time. When we were finished, there was a unicorn, a giant butterfly, and a rainbow outside the escape room/rooms.

I think that what I found tricky was sometimes the questions were math ones, and I struggled with some. Next time I think I would take a photo of the questions too, but not the answers.

For one of today's lockdown lessons, we had to do an experiment with eggs. My digital learning object shows that I can upload photos and upload them to my blog.
First we had to get a large cup, and a bottle of any type of vinegar. We then had to pour enough in the cup to cover the egg completely. Then we placed the egg carefully in the cup, and put a lid on it. In twenty-four hours, we will have to take it out, rinse it off, and then it will be bounceable, and squishy.
I used malt vinegar, because that was all we had.
It was actually quite tricky to get the egg in without dropping it, because I had to fit my hand through the mouth of the glass. I really enjoyed taking the photos, and arranging the slide to look nice, because I like to make it look neat. Next time what i would change would be to have white vinegar instead, because then you would be able to see it properly.

Today we had to create a fact file about the Paralympic Games. My digital learning object shows that I can create an informative fact file.
We had to make a copy of the original one, that was empty of facts, and search up five different facts to put on our fact file. We then had to take a screenshot or publish it to the web, and blog it. Before we blogged it, we had to make sure the facts were true.
I found it tricky to find multiple facts that weren't random and not true, because anybody can put anything on the internet, so I had to find multiple sources who said it was true. I enjoyed creating the fact file over all, because I found out lots of interesting things I didn't know about the Paralympics. Next time I would change the background to be more colourful.

Today we did our August Reflection. Our august reflection is where we reflect on the month that has just passed, and write down our favorite things and bits of work we need to practise.
My digital learning object shows that I can reflect. It was quite tricky to put my age recommendations on the reading bit because I really didn't know at first. I actually quite enjoyed writing about what I have been writing, and what are some of my favorite things I have done from lockdown. Next time I think I would change the books that I have been reading that i put down on there, because I am always reading new things.
I found the selfie part a little tricky as well, because the light behind me get turning it all bright and unfocused. I hope you enjoy reading my blog.

We have been writing Author Reports in class for the past week. We have been learning how to link between paragraphs. We had to use idea links, use the same word towards the end of one paragraph in another, and start paragraphs with things like “As well as… He also”.

When Terry Pratchett got his first book published, it was called Business Rivals.
Adulthood: A while after writing Business Rivals, Terry Pratchett married a lady named Lyn Pratchett, and they had a daughter named Rhianna Pratchett, who is now 44 years old. Terry Pratchett died at the age 66. He died of Alzheimer’s disease, after a long struggle with it.He has written many amazing stories, and a lot of them are very well known.

For R.E/Religious Education we have been learning about the Assumption of the Blessed Mary, mother of Jesus. The Assumption of Mary is when she died, and Jesus sent his angels to come and raise her to heaven. They had laid her in a tomb, but when the disciples came back to visit her body, she was gone.
For our task we had to create a Word Cloud and for the words we had to use words that described Mary and were about her life. I used a lot of words, but had to delete a lot because of the template. It took a while, but I’m satisfied with how it has turned out. I found it tricky to think of a lot of words to use, but luckily I had an example to get inspiration from.
Since we are in lockdown right now, I had to do the work on my own, because I can’t see anybody else. I was lucky because before I started my class and I had a google meet on our chromebooks with the teacher, Mrs Naden. She explained all about how to do our tasks, and answered our questions.
I enjoyed customising the Word Cloud and finding different words for it. Next time I think I’ll change the word colours. Here is a screenshot of my work on Word Cloud:
This week we have been reading about robots. We have been learning to infer. To infer is to read between the lines to find an answer to a question that is not in the text, but there are clues that the author has left.
For our create we had to design a little robot to solve a problem in the world right now. It didn’t have to be real, it could be made up. We wrote down the problem, then ideas about how it could solve that problem, and then draw it and write down a description of it.
My robot's purpose is to help with returning more native flora and fauna to their native habitats. We put all this on a slide show, and they were pre-designed by our teacher, Mrs Naden. We just had to fill out the pieces about our robots.
I found it tricky to draw the robot, and to write down the solutions. I really enjoyed designing what it looked like, because I got to make it cute. Next time I would colour it in, but I left my colouring pens at school, and I can’t get them because of lockdown.
