Parihaka Feather

 For the past week for reading, my class was learning how to identify the main points. We have been learning about Parihaka. We had to read 3 texts, and watch 2 videos about Parihaka.

We had to create a feather with words that are similar to the word 'peace'. I enjoyed adding in the words. I found thinking of the words tricky. Next time I would change how I coloured the feather.

Come Down Golden # 3

 Today we had to make a quiz about the book Come Down, Golden so far. We were learning to ask and answer questions. 

We had to make the quiz have at least five questions. I was working with Mya again. We had to make it on chapters 2 and 3 of Come Down, Golden! I enjoyed working with Mya. I think that next time I would add more questions. I found it tricky to decide on what the questions would be.

Come Down Golden #2

 Today we made another slide for Come Down Golden. We had to make a google drawing of Louis being jumped at by a dog, from Chapter 1. We were learning how to infer.

Me and my partner Mya have been doing the slides in turns, where one person will do one, and the other will do the next. I was pretty tricky to get the work down in time, but we managed. I really enjoyed working with Mya. Next time I think that I would change how we set up the slides, so that they looked pretty.

Come Down, Golden!

 This week for reading my group is reading Come Down, Golden. We were learning how to hypothesise. We had to write our hypothesis based on the cover and the blurb on the back of the book called 'Come Down Golden'.  

I found it quite hard to not muck around and chat to my friends while working. I enjoyed thinking of the answers to our questions. Next time I would change how fast I got it down and who I sat with.

Reading - Robots

 This week we have been reading about robots. We have been learning to infer. To infer is to read between the lines to find an answer to a question that is not in the text, but there are clues that the author has left. 

For our create we had to design a little robot to solve a problem in the world right now. It didn’t have to be real, it could be made up. We wrote down the problem, then ideas about how it could solve that problem, and then draw it and write down a description of it. 

My robot's purpose is to help with returning more native flora and fauna to their native habitats. We put all this on a slide show, and they were pre-designed by our teacher, Mrs Naden. We just had to fill out the pieces about our robots.

I found it tricky to draw the robot, and to write down the solutions. I really enjoyed designing what it looked like, because I got to make it cute. Next time I would colour it in, but I left my colouring pens at school, and I can’t get them because of lockdown.

Puriri - Report

For the past few weeks, we have been learning to summarize. Summarizing is when you tell the main point of something in your own words in a shorter version. 

We had to choose a Maori medicinal plant that is native to New Zealand. Then we had to research about how they can heal injuries etc and how to use them. I chose the Puriri, and I had to learn about what it does. We had a slideshow with information on some of the plants and I got some of my information on there. 

The Puriri tree has very green leaves, and those are the things that you need for the healing. in my picture that I'll put below, I explain how to use it. It was quite tricky to find out all the information on how to use it and what to do with it. I really enjoyed designing the poster. Next time I that I would change how I drew the flower in the corner. Later on we are going to paint them on signs and stick the signs next to the plant in our school Rongoa garden. 

Rongoa means Maori healing, so we have a Maori healing garden.

Japan

This week we have been learning how to skim and skan. We were given a slideshow to make a copy of and fill out the slides to make it our own. We had to read a bunch of different texts to find the information we needed. Here are the links to some of them: Japan - EPIC , It's Cool to Learn About Countries: Japan , Nintendo Video Game Designer. They are all on epic, so if you have an individual epic account from your school, you can read them.

We had to change the background, font, and text colour of each slide. I didn't end up finishing my entire slideshow because I kept getting distracted, but I will post an update on them once I am finished. It was quite challenging to finish the slides that I did do. I really enjoyed learning about different things in Japan. Next time I would change how much I did on my slides, so that I could get them done. My digital learning object shows that I can embed a slideshow onto my blog.

Theseus and the Minotaur

 For the past few weeks, my class has been learning to infer. When you infer you read between the lines. My group and I were reading Theseus and the Minotaur. We read about how he became king of Athens. After reading the story, we evaluated the story. We had a doc where the entire group put down their thoughts, so I'll put it down the bottom. We also had to either create our own labyrinth, or make a WANTED poster for the minotaur. I'll put that there too.

I enjoyed making the poster because I got to design the minotaur. I found it hard to write what I agreed with and what I disagreed with on the evaluation doc. Next time I would change how I made the minotaur. I got help from my friend Camille, because I was away when we started, so here is a link to her blog: Camille S

The Crystal Crescent

Talofa. Today Fantastic Four (My reading group) were reading the back of the book Crystal Crescent, witch we will be reading a chapter of soon. This is what the back says: "We can't avoid the moon. We're inside it's atmosphere. We're going all the way down." The ozone layer has been destroyed and Earth is at risk. The only hope for humanity is to find the precious liquid telotion. When heated, telotion creates huge amounts of ozone.

Raki and Tando are on a mission to find a source of rare substance when they crash-land onto an unknown planet. What are the mysterious blue creatures they find on there?

And why have they taken over Tando's mind?

Raki will face the biggest challenge of his life in his quest to save them both. 

I think this book is about two boys who have to go on a mission to save the world, but one of them gets in trouble and the other has to save him. I'm excited to read it.

Netball commands in Maori

David Walliams Fact File

This week we were creating David Walliams fact files. I found it tricky to make the shadow of the boy holding the books. I found it easy to search up the information about him. I enjoyed making the fact file. Next time I would change the background. My digital learning object shows that I know how to create a compact fact file about famous people.
