What christmas means to me

To me Christmas means Jesus is born and it is a time to celebrate with my family. It also means a time to give gifts and have lunch at my Nana’s house. Then we always go and visit my cousins in Tauranga. Christmas means watching the happiness of my friends and family as they open up their presents.

Goal Setting Review

 We went back and edited our goal settings for 2020, and we wrote on the bottom what we achieved and was was nearly achieved. 

Making Ice Candles

We made ice candles yesterday. We made them for advent. First we cut the top off dairy free milk bottles. Then we slathered the sides with oil so that it wouldn't stick. Then we put long candle sticks in it and filled the rest with ice. After that we poured melted wax in it and let it sit. Today we went back and had a look at them and peeled the milk bottles of them. They were hard, just like candles!

November Student Reflection

 We made our November Reflections. It was easy to come up with the math problem.

 We have been doing even more Art Colouring Book pieces. I did Hokusaika this time. It was quite tricky to find the right colours.

 We have started doing the summer learning journey. We did an art colouring book thing today. We had to do different pieces of art and try to get them to look as close as the original as we can. I found it tricky to get all the different details correct. It was easy to choose the colours. It was really fun to get to do art on my chromebook. This week my reading group have been reading the book Rat Island. We had to do a prediction sheet. It was hard for me to think of what to write. 

Camp Thank You Letter

 Last week we went away to a Year 5-6 Tui Ridge. We did a whole range of different activities. My favorite activity was Rock wall climbing. We have been writing letters to some of the people who helped with camp. I was writing to my mum, because she was my group leader. Hope you like my post!

Dear Mum,

I am writing to thank you for looking after the group and beelining in

every activity that needed one. I really felt special having you as my

group leader. Mum, you made my camp days a whole lot better, and

it was very comforting to have you say good night.

Thank you for encouraging me to climb higher on the rock wall when

I was feeling really sad after failing the high ropes. You walked beside

me and when I was feeling grumpy you put up with it.

You have been the best instructor and the best Mum at the same time!

Without you there I doubt I would have had as good of a time. I feel really

happy and special to have had you as my group leader. Thanks for making

the Year 5-6 Camp the best!

Updated Camp Goals

Before we went away to camp we made camp goals. This week we had to update them and put what we were proud of.

Parihaka Feather

This week we have been creating feathers. They were split into different puzzle pieces. We had to find the different information about the different things on the pieces. It was pretty tricky to find all the information and facts. It was easy to colour it in. I found it fun working on it in a pair with my friend Ciara. 

October Reflection

 Today we were doing our October reflections. It was tricky to explain about the books I have been reading. It was easy to take the photo. 

Camp Goals

 Today we were writing our camp goals and my Social goal is to make new friends, my personal goal is to push myself to the limit. I'm really excited to go camp because I want to go on the new activities. 

Letter to the Editor

 Today my class and I were writing letters to the editor of the Gisborne Herald. We were writing them because the river by our school is covered with blackberry bushes and it's the council's job to clear it up and they haven't been doing it. My school has been emailing them, calling them, andusing the Fix It app. But they never reply. Down below is my letter: 

At my school, Saint Marys gisborne, we have Taruheru awa next to our school. We are a green-gold enviro school and we do lots of planting native trees on the awa banks. But there isn’t any more room to plant more native trees because the council has stopped mowing down at the river, and there are blackberry bushes stretching from the river  up the banks near the fence line. We would like the council to cut the blackberry out and start mowing down there again. Then we can plant more native New Zealand trees,to provide shade over the river to encourage more little fresh water crayfish and other tiny creatures to start living there. I believe planting native trees will increase the amount of animals like native birds, fish, and any other native animals so that they can make homes. The birds can make nests in the trees, and the fish and other water creatures can live in the river. We are writing to the new zealand herald because the council have not been replying to our many emails.

Collage Pop Art

 Today we had our cybersmart teacher in and we made pop out collages and used a sight called LunaPic. We made the collages with photos of ourselves. I found it fun choosing the filters. It was tricky to download it. The artist that inspired us was Andy Warhol.

The Crystal Crescent

Talofa. Today Fantastic Four (My reading group) were reading the back of the book Crystal Crescent, witch we will be reading a chapter of soon. This is what the back says: "We can't avoid the moon. We're inside it's atmosphere. We're going all the way down." The ozone layer has been destroyed and Earth is at risk. The only hope for humanity is to find the precious liquid telotion. When heated, telotion creates huge amounts of ozone.

Raki and Tando are on a mission to find a source of rare substance when they crash-land onto an unknown planet. What are the mysterious blue creatures they find on there?

And why have they taken over Tando's mind?

Raki will face the biggest challenge of his life in his quest to save them both. 

I think this book is about two boys who have to go on a mission to save the world, but one of them gets in trouble and the other has to save him. I'm excited to read it.

My speech about Climate change

Malo e lelei. For two weeks my class and I have been writing our speeches. Mine is about climate change and how we can stop it. It was quite hard to find the information I needed for it. I found it really fun to write it when I had gotten the information and what I was going to write. Next time I would change the length of my first paragraph.
