My Lenten Promises

Last wednesday was Ash Wednesday. We had to give up something and pray more and do something for other people. We had to do an activity and write on it what we were going to do. Then we had to colour it in so that it wasn't plain. I decided to give up watching stuff on my chromebook at dinner. Did you know that Lent lasts 40 days? I learnt that at lent you have to give up something. I enjoyed colouring in. I found it tricky to glue it so that there were pockets.

Is all handwriting the same?

 This week we were learning to make connections between what we read. We did a handwriting experiment and had to show the differences between our handwriting. When me and my friend Kylah did the experiment, we learnt that all handwriting is different. Did you know that if you look closely at different peoples handwriting, there are lots of differences that you probably hadn't noticed before. I enjoyed looking at the differences in our writing, because it showed that not everyone is the same. I found it difficult to take the photos of our writing. Chinese New Year

 We have been making Chinese New Year posters and chinese lanterns. I found it tricky to make the lantern. I found it fun to make the poster. Next time I would change the information on the poster. I am learning how to summarise.

Hi my name is Leyla and I go to Saint Mary's School. I speak English and a bit of Italian. I have two sisters and I live with my parents. I am in Year 6 and I am in Room 1. I like to go to the beach and swim, and I also like to go for walks in the park with my dog and I like to read and do art.

I am good at swimming, art and reading. I also love to do gymnastics and horse riding. I enjoy painting and writing in my spare time. My challenges are focusing and I sometimes get distracted when I’m meant to be doing my work. My goals for this year are to get better at art, make new friends, and do much better in school.

This year I am looking forward to doing the class museum trips. Someone who inspires me is Seri the Pixel Biologist and Dean Schneider, because when I grow up I want to be a Zoologist. I want to open an endangered species sanctuary and help the animals who are dying. I am also looking forward to improving my blog and making it more interesting. 

Art-Taking Photos

 In class we are learning how to take photos. We were thinking about how the light shone through, what we could see in the background, and what part of the plant we wanted to take a photo of. I found it tricky to take the photos with my chromebook. I enjoyed looking at the plants and trees. We took them down at the Rerenga Awa and behind my classroom.
